| How did TriMet envision a commitment to having a 100% zero-emission fleet by 2040 while also doubling its original bus maintenance area and creating capacity to power all-electric buses? This presentation will answer that question by featuring the new TriMet Powell Garage, a two-phase project that met profound energy efficiency and sustainability goals while maintaining uninterrupted operation of the facility amid demolition and replacement of nearly all existing structures.TriMet provides bus, light rail and commuter rail service in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area to nearly 200,000 riders per day. TriMet buses run out of three garages, the oldest of which was the Powell Garage that was constructed in 1976. The new 400,000 sq ft facility now accommodates more than 300 buses and includes an intentional focus on employee health and well-being with walking paths and an exercise facility.
The presenters will share the innovative strategies for energy efficiency and sustainability in this critical infrastructure project, such as early engagement with Energy Trust of Oregon. This helped the design team maximize energy incentives, which included technical assistance to establish baseline and target EUIs, charrette facilitation, and energy modeling. |
