DER Technical Integration Challenges and Solutions

Renewable integration presents a complex challenge for utilities, particularly when incorporating Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) such as solar power.

Seattle City Light (SCL) has been actively updating their technical requirements and processes to identify and mitigate renewable integration challenges. This includes revising interconnection standards, grid stability criteria, and operational protocols to accommodate the unique characteristics of renewable resources. The interconnection standards will ensure that the proposed solar installations meet the necessary technical requirements for safe, reliable, and efficient integration into the grid.

This presentation explores the integration challenges faced by SCL and other utilities’ efforts to update technical requirements and interconnection processes to address these issues, highlighting the changes that are being made to address renewable integration challenges. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the technical considerations involved in integrating solar resources and how to effectively manage these challenges.
