Decarbonizing Pharma: Mission Possible

Many pharmaceutical companies are taking steps to make their operations carbon-neutral and have made commitments to decarbonize from scope 1 and 2 emissions within the next couple decades. Through case studies, this presentation summarizes the process, unique challenges and opportunities for pharmaceutical companies, common strategies and important lessons learnt. From quantifying the emissions to each end use, reviewing energy efficiency opportunity at each end use, identifying key emerging technologies and alternate pathways to decarbonization this presentation will provide an overview of the process undertaken to develop decarbonization roadmaps.

Speaker Bio

Zara is an Associate at Arup, who is responsible for energy and sustainability consulting for large commercial projects as well as university campuses and school and college districts in California. Zara has over a decade of experience working on sustainability projects and multiple energy feasibility studies on microgrids, utility masterplans, cogeneration plants and solar projects in particular. Her work focuses on existing building projects ranging from retro-commissioning, energy auditing, decarbonization studies, commissioning, LEED and post occupancy assessments of buildings. Zara has spoken on numerous platforms on zero carbon including USGBC, SCE Training, Net zero and ASHRAE conferences.
