"Choose your own M&V Adventure" With an Electric Utility Program Manager

Measurement and Verification (M&V) required for utility rebate programs is perceived as challenging from companies offering emerging technologies for energy saving products – M&V is viewed as complicated and time-consuming. Utilities offering commercial and industrial rebates are increasingly frustrated with “business as usual” energy efficiency measures and are seeking deeper energy savings that go beyond basic lighting retrofits. The hard part to demystify the M&V process is finding the right strategy to take the first step. This interactive session will unlock strategies to smooth the rebate participation process in a “choose your own adventure” format exploring facility types and energy efficiency measures that relate to conference attendees. This approach will help guide the audience to participate in learning that it is practical and fun to find the right path for the M&V plan to determine the energy savings and ensure the end user receives a rebate. This session brings together seasoned utility rebate program and M&V experts in a lively interactive way to lead participants through an energetic learning experience to avoid the common traps, overcome misconceptions, and confidently pursue significate energy savings and rebate approvals.

Speaker Bio

Kerry Rowland, CEM manages research pilots and EM&V activities for Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO). PSO’s Demand Side Management (DSM) program which promotes energy savings and provides commercial and residential customers with rebates for energy efficiency improvements. Kerry holds a BS and MS from Oklahoma State University. She is past president of the Oklahoma Association of Energy Engineers (AEEOK), member of ASHRAE, and currently
serves on Oklahoma Aquarium board. Awards: EPRI Technology Transfer Award (2021), Women in Stem Honoree Tulsa Regional Stem Alliance (2020), AEE Region IV Energy Manager of Year (2018), AEE Best National Newsletter and Conference for Oklahoma Chapter (2018), American Electric Power (AEP) Innovation Contest “Spark Tank” Winner (2017), AEE Best National Newsletter for Oklahoma Chapter (2017).
Curtis Robbins has two decades of experience leading energy-related research, measurement & verification, program evaluation, and ISO certifications. In 2014 Curtis left academic energy research in solar and biofuels to support demand-side management at electric and gas utilities. With a background in mechanical engineering, Curtis has in-depth knowledge of engineering principles to provide solutions to complex energy problems. Curtis earned an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a B.S. in Engineering Management from Clarkson University. His master’s thesis focused on hydrogen-based energy storage systems to reliable power to sensitive off-grid applications.
